Dog Treat Recipes

Cheddar Cheese BiscuitsDog with salt and pepper


1-1/2 cups whole wheat flour

1-1/4 cups grated cheddar cheese

¼ cup margarine, softened

pinch of salt

milk


  • Let cheese stand until it reaches room temperature
  • Mix the cheese with margarine, salt and flour
  • Add enough milk to form into a ball
  • Chill for ½ hour
  • Roll onto floured surface
  • Cut into shapes
  • Bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes or until slightly brown and firm

Homemade Frosty Paws


32 ounces vanilla or plain yogurt

1 banana, mashed

2 tablespoons peanut butter

2 tablespoons honey


  • Blend all ingredients thoroughly
  • Distribute evenly in 3 oz paper cups, ice cube trays or ice cream cups
  • Freeze

This recipe can save you bunches of money over buying these treats in the freezer section


A great treat after a walk on a hot summer day!


Easy Cheesy Treats


1 ¾ cups cheddar cheese, grated and room temperature

1 stick of margarine

1 ½ cups whole wheat flour


  • Mix cream cheese with margarine and flour
  • Make 2 logs, about 2" in diameter
  • Chill in refrigerator
  • Cut into 1/4 " slices and place on a greased baking sheet
  • Bake at 375 F for about 15 minutes or until slightly brown and firm

Yummy Veggie Crisps


1 cup whole wheat flour

½ cup chopped cooked greens (spinach, kale, turnip greens, or chopped carrots.)

2 tablespoons oil or bacon drippings

1 tablespoon alfalfa meal

2 tablespoons brewers yeastDog Sunglasses

¾ tsp bone meal milk


  • Mix all ingredients together
  • Add enough milk, to make a firm dough
  • Roll dough and cut into shapes
  • Bake at 350 F until very lightly browned

Peanut Butter Biscuits


1 cup flour (white or whole wheat)

¾ cup peanut butter

½ cup water

2 tablespoons honey

1 teaspoon cinnamon


  • Place peanut butter, honey, cinnamon & water in a small pan over medium heat
  • Stir quickly until peanut butter melts & all ingredients are blended
  • Pour flour into another mixing bowl & slowly fold in the liquid mixture
  • Mix well and roll out the dough on the floured surface
  • Use cookie cutters to cut out cookies from dough (re-flour if necessary)
  • Bake in 375 degree oven for about 25 minutes
  • Turn off heat and let the cookies harden (but don't let them burn)
  • Cool completely

Veggie Biscuits


1 cup whole wheat flour

1 stick margarine (room temperature)

½ cup grated cheese (room temperature)

1 garlic clove, crushed (optional)

½ cup caned veggies (peas, carrots, etc.)

milk

  • Mix cheese and margarine together
  • Add veggies and garlic
  • Stir in flour
  • Add enough milk to help form into a ball
  • Chill 1 hour
  • Roll on floured surface
  • Cut into shapes
  • Bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes or until slightly brown

Microwave Biscuits


1 cup whole wheat flour Dog with bone in the mouth

¾ cup dry milk

¼ cup cornmeal

½ cup quick oats

1 teaspoon sugar

1/3 cup shortening

1 tablespoon bouillon granules

½ cup flour

1 egg slightly beaten

½ cup hot water


  • Mix flour, milk, cornmeal, oats and sugar
  • Cut in shortening
  • Add egg, bullion and hot water
  • Knead 5 minutes
  • Cut into shapes
  • Microwave at 50% power for 5 to 10 minutes on rotating plate

Liver Dog Treats


1 pound of liver - calf, chicken or beef

2 eggs

1 cup cornmeal

1 cup flour

garlic to taste

  • Process raw liver and eggs in processor
  • Gradually add the flour & cornmeal until well blended
  • Pour into a baking dish or cookie sheet
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes

These make a great training treats- you can cut the pieces as small as you like



Apple Cinnamon Pawty Cookies


1 large apple

¼ cup honey

½ cup water

½ teaspoon cinnamon

1 cup oatmeal

1 ½ cups whole wheat flour

1/8 cup whole wheat flour


  • Preheat oven 350
  • Core, slice and mince the apple (use a food processor if you have one)
  • In a large bowl, combine the minced apple, honey water, cinnamon and oatmeal
  • Gradually blend in the wheat flour, adding enough to form a stiff dough
  • In a small bowl, add 1/8 cup wheat flour
  • Spoon the dough by rounded teaspoon onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing about 2 inches apart
  • Flatten each cookie using the bottom of a glass dipped in the wheat flour (to prevent sticking).
  • Bake for 30 minutes
  • Remove from oven and flip each cookie to brown evenly on both sides
  • Reduce oven temperature to 325 degrees
  • Return to oven and bake for an additional 30 minutes
  • Let cool overnight

Potato Peanut Butter Cookies


2 cups mashed potatoes

2 cups milk

1 cup chicken stock Dog rolling on back

2 cups chunky peanut butter

1 package yeast

½ cup lukewarm water

3 eggs

3 ½ cup flour

2 cups whole wheat flour

1 cup rye flour

1 cup corn meal


  • Mix potatoes, milk, chicken stock and peanut butter in sauce pan
  • Bring to boil, stirring constantly
  • Pour into heat proof bowl, and allow to cool to room temperature
  • Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water
  • Add to peanut butter mixture
  • Add eggs, mix well
  • Gradually blend in flours & corn meal, knead well
  • Roll dough out to ¼ inch, place on greased cookie sheet
  • Score deeply with knife into small pieces, bake at 300 degrees for 45 minutes
  • Turn off heat, leave in oven overnight
  • Break into pieces


Doggy Biscuits


2 cups whole wheat flour

1 cup cornmeal

1 tablespoon salt

1/3 cup vegetable oil

1 egg

1 cup water


  • Preheat oven 350 degrees & prepare a greased cookie sheet
  • In a large bowl stir together the whole wheat flour, corn meal and salt
  • Mix in the oil, egg and water to make a soft dough (that is not too sticky)
  • You may add more flour if needed
  • Roll teaspoonfuls of dough into balls and place on a prepared cookie sheet and flatten slightly
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until nicely browned and firm
  • Cool completely
  • Store in airtight container
