Animal Success Stories

I had been passively searching for a companion for my dog, Gonzo, for some time. When I adopted him about 2 1/2 years ago, it was love at first sight. Since then I have constantly wondered about his siblings. I stumbled across a picture of Nelly the site and thoughreo 2t for a second someone had posted Gonzo's picture!
I was immediately interested, but a bit skittish - he was heartworm positive and wasn't fully housebroken. I just wasn't sure about taking all of that on and incredibly nervous about something going wrong during his treatments.
Nevertheless, I took my dog, Gonzo, to meet Nelly and couldn't resist. I knew the added risks and responsibilities were going to be well worth it.
And I was correct. Florida Doggie Paws Rescue, the veterinarian and Nelly's recovery have been amazing! And he has only had one small accident since he has been home! The love and joy he has brought home has been incredible.
Nelly has the best temperament - sweet, calm and loving - and is the perfect compliment to his more hyper-active new brother, Gonzo. They are enjoying each other's company and quickly forming a bond. Their similarities and differences have established harmony in our household and made us a very happy family!

 Odie

We chose Linda as Riley's new mom and she has a dog named Odie who was rescued 11 years ago from a vet's office because the owners never came back to pick him up.
As you can see Odie is getting up there in years and he hasn't been doing very well.  While reading her application I came across this statement "Odie won't be with me much longer and I would like to have a friend for him as well as have a new baby to take care of and love when he is gone."  During our phone interview and the phone conversations leading up to Riley's arrival at his new home, I sure didn't know what to expect.  All I really knew was Odie couldn't get up on his own and Linda was having to assist him.  I am a very emotional person and thought I would be leaving in tears seeing Odie and thinking of his passing.

Much to Linda's and my suprise, when I walked in the door with Riley, Odie got up his own and was instantly smitten with little Riley.  I spent about an hour with Linda and her new family and the entire time I was there Odie was up and moving around and had so much joy in his eyes.  It was incredible to see!

I've since been back to visit with Linda, Odie & Riley, and Odie is doing so well with Riley there.  I am positive Riley's presence has given Odie more time with us on this earth.
It's true puppy love!

OscarOscar was one of my first foster dogs with FDPR and he is a very special dog.

His story started when a woman by the name of Darlene saw his photo at a kill shelter in north Florida and she couldn't stand the idea of him being put down.  Darlene has a senior dog that has seizures, and she was worried a young dog like Oscar would not do well with her.  She contacted several rescues about taking in Oscar and I was sent an email asking if I would foster him.   Of course after seeing his face I couldn't say no.  I have had over 30 fosters over the years and Oscar had one of the best personalities I've seen.

He is both playful but had a gentleness to him that is unusual for such a young dog.  Even if another dog would snap at him he would think they were playing.  He always acted so happy and nothing could change that.  We were so lucky to find the perfect family for Oscar.

He loves being outside, and now he has a huge yard to play in plus a pool. And of course he is extra lucky to have a new best friend who adores him. His adoption photo is my favorite and probably always will be. I have it where I can look at it often and do so whenever I need to raise my spirits.
